How should I clean the connectors after use?

Always rinse the connectors with fresh water immediately after recovering the equipment from seawater. If disconnected, flush the contact faces with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol spray to remove sand and salt. Dry with compressed air or a lint-free cloth before storage.

Salt is the enemy of rubber seals.

  • Crystallization: If seawater dries on the connector, salt crystals form. These crystals are sharp like glass.
  • The Risk: When you mate the connector next time, these invisible crystals can slice through the rubber sealing face or scratch the gold plating, causing leakage.
  • Routine: Make “Freshwater Rinse” a mandatory step in your post-dive checklist.
