Connector Maintenance Guide

Maintenance Schedule Overview

After Every Use (5 minutes)

Step 1: Rinse Thoroughly

• Use fresh water (low pressure spray)
• Rinse for at least 30 seconds
• Pay attention to threads and mating surfaces
• Ensure all salt/debris removed

Step 2: Dry Completely

• Use compressed air or lint-free cloth
• Ensure no moisture in crevices
• Air dry in clean environment
• Don’t store while wet

Step 3: Visual Inspection

• Check for obvious damage (cracks, dents)
• Inspect O-ring for cuts or debris
• Verify protective caps are in place
• Note any concerns for follow-up

Step 4: Apply Protective Lubricant

• Apply thin film of dielectric grease to threads
• Light coating on O-ring (silicone grease)
• Don’t over-apply (attracts debris)

Weekly Maintenance (15 minutes)

Deep Cleaning

1. Disassemble connector (if designed for it)
2. Clean all parts with mild soap solution
3. Use soft brush for stubborn deposits
4. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water
5. Dry completely

Contact Inspection

1. Inspect electrical contacts
2. Look for corrosion or discoloration
3. Clean with contact cleaner if needed

Thread Inspection

1. Check threads for damage or wear

Monthly Maintenance (30 minutes)

O-Ring Detailed Inspection

2. Clean O-ring and groove
3. Inspect under good light (use magnifier)
4. Look for: cracks, nicks, flattening, hardening
5. Stretch test: gently stretch 10-20%, look for cracks

Electrical Testing

2. Insulation resistance: >1000 megohms between pins
3. Document results in maintenance log
4. Investigate any anomalies

Sealing Surface Check

1. Inspect mating surfaces for scratches

4. Major damage = replace connector

Annual Maintenance (1 hour)

Replace O-Rings

Even if they look OK! O-rings degrade over time.

1. Order correct O-ring kit for your connector model
2. Remove old O-rings
3. Clean O-ring grooves thoroughly
4. Install new O-rings (lubricated)
5. Ensure proper seating
6. Document replacement date

Complete Disassembly and Inspection

1. Fully disassemble connector (if designed for it)
2. Inspect all internal components
3. Clean all parts
4. Check for wear or damage
5. Replace any worn components
6. Reassemble with fresh lubrication

Pressure Test (If Possible)

1. Test to rated depth (or have it done professionally)

• Store in sealed plastic bags with desiccant
