How Do I Properly Store Underwater Connectors When Not In Use?

Underwater Connector Storage Guide

Proper storage extends connector life and ensures reliability when you need them. Here’s how to store HYSF connectors correctly.

Short-Term Storage (Days to Weeks)

Between Deployments:

  1. Rinse thoroughly – Fresh water, remove all salt
  2. Dry completely – Wipe with lint-free cloth
  3. Inspect O-rings – Quick visual check
  4. Light lubrication – Silicone grease on O-rings
  5. Install caps – Both plug and receptacle
  6. Store in dry location – Protected from elements

Long-Term Storage (Months to Years)

Preparation Steps:

  1. Complete cleaning
    • Disassemble connector
    • Clean all parts with mild soap and water
    • Rinse thoroughly with fresh water
    • Dry completely (air dry or low heat)
  2. Detailed inspection
    • Check O-rings for damage
    • Inspect housing for cracks
    • Verify contacts are clean
    • Replace any damaged parts
  3. Proper lubrication
    • Apply fresh silicone grease to O-rings
    • Light coating on threads
    • Don’t over-lubricate
  4. Protective packaging
    • Use original packaging if available
    • Or use sealed plastic bags
    • Include desiccant pack (silica gel)
    • Label with date and connector info
