Are HYSF connectors “Hot Swappable” (Live Mating)?

No. Standard wet-mate connectors should NOT be mated or unmated while under electrical load (Live). Doing so can cause electrical arcing, which burns the gold plating on the contacts and destroys the insulation barrier, leading to immediate failure.

“Wet-mate” does not mean “Live-mate”.

  • Arcing: Water is conductive. Plugging in a live connector (e.g., 48V or 300V) creates a momentary arc that pits the contact surfaces.
  • Protocol: Always power down the system (turn off the PSU or ROV output) before connecting or disconnecting the cables.
  • Exceptions: While some specialized inductive couplers exist for live mating, our standard pin-and-socket connectors require a power-off protocol for safety.
